MONTANA PRESERVATION 2009

MONTANA VERNACULAR

Preservation 2009, Butte National Historic Landmark.

Vernacular Architecture Forum

Montana Vernacular was chosen as this year's preservation theme because we are quickly losing these marvelous common places, as illustrated by the loss of the building featured in the poster. We are also celebrating the state's vernacular buildings and landscapes by hosting the national 2009 Vernacular Architecture Forum Conference this summer in Butte and southwest Montana.

For details about the conference and vernacular architecture nationally and internationally, please see vafmontana.org and vernaculararchitectureforum.org.

If you would like a free copy of the poster please contact Damon Murdo at dmurdo@mt.gov, or 444-7767.

NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION

National Preservation Month : This Place Matters

The theme for 2009's National Preservation Month is This Place Matters. Preservation Month raises awareness about the power historic preservation has to protect and enhance our communities and the places that really matter to us. Celebrate the diverse and unique heritage of our country's cities and towns and become a part of the growing preservation movement. Browse the new features of this interactive website for ways that you can get involved today!

For more than 50 years, the National Trust has been helping Americans protect the irreplaceable. A private nonprofit organization with more than 200,000 members, the National Trust is the leader of the vigorous preservation movement that is saving the best of the country's past for the future.

The need for the National Trust has increased since its founding in 1949. When historic buildings and neighborhoods are torn down or allowed to deteriorate, a part of our past disappears forever. When that happens, we lose history that helps us know who we are, and we lose opportunities to live and work in the kinds of interesting and attractive surroundings that older buildings can provide.
These goals are reflected in the Trust's mission statement:

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is a privately funded non-profit organization that provides leadership, education, advocacy, and resources to save America's diverse historic places and revitalize our communities.
